Origin and geographical distribution : Tropical Central America
Status : Cultivated, wild.
Description : Tree-like, height 3 to 8 m, propagated by seeds; typical hollow stem and with big leaf scars, 5-9 divided leaves leaves,flowers ivory white, plants dioecious or monoecious, fruit ellipsoidal, orange at maturity, 15-20; many seeds.
Uses : Edible fruits (ripe and unripe), juices, baked, jam, dried.
