Vasconcella palandensis (V. Badillo et al.) V. Badillo

Common names : Sp:  papaillo (Ecuador)

Origin and geographical distribution : Humid premontane forest (1800 m) of Southeastern Ecuador. Only known in Palanda county (province Zamora-Chinchipe), rare.

Status : Wild.

Description : Semi-lignose, tree-like, height to 6 m, propagated by seeds; leaves palmately compound, flowers green-yellowish, plants dioecious, fruit almost spherical with acuminate apex, orange at maturity, 7-8 x 7-8 cm; many seeds, arranged in 5 groups each, surrounded by pulp.  

Uses : Edible fruits; pulp surrounding the seeds is eaten.
